No red faces as Llanelli Scarlets open sports bar in HHD’s East Gate scheme

Rugby Union team Llanelli Scarlets gave their seal of approval to HDD’s East Gate scheme in Llanelli town centre when they opened their new Sports Bar in July.

Built in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council and completed last year, East Gate has transformed a five acre site in Llanelli town centre. East Gate is anchored by a five-screen Odeon cinema, alongside a 53-bed Travelodge and several well-known restaurant and retail operators such as Nando’s, Costa, Ladbrokes, Greene King and Jenkins Bakers.

Adjacent to East Gate, the recently developed 550-seat Ffwrnes regional theatre means that the entire area has become a local focal point for leisure activity. The development also includes 21,000 sq. ft. of office space for the Council, 230 car parking spaces and a new bus interchange to ensure East Gate is easily accessible from Carmarthen town.

Harvey Lay of HDD said: “The arrival of the Scarlets’ Sports Bar is further evidence that East Gate is a first class leisure destination of regional significance. It showcases HDD’s expertise in bringing a redundant piece of land to life. We have achieved something special at Llanelli by matchmaking top name retail and leisure operators with the demands of local people, while also providing a superb facility for the local Council and we are delighted to see it going from strength to strength.”

Phase I of Lawley development completed

HDD has announced the completion of the first phase of its development in Lawley, near Telford in Shropshire. Completed on programme, this announcement represents a significant success for the Hawley development team.

The scheme includes a 40,500 sq. ft. Morrisons along with nine ancillary units ranging from 550 sq.ft. to 1,000 sq. ft. (7,700 sq. ft in total), plus a further standalone retail unit of 8,000 sq. ft. Operators include funeral directors, the parish council, estate agents, solicitors, Subway, a fish and chip shop, Barnardo’s, a hairdresser, opticians and Greggs.

The development also includes a public house which is occupied by Marston’s Inns and Taverns, plus a children’s day nursery and a 60-bed extra care facility (which are due, in turn, for completion during Q4 2013 and Q1 2014).

Richard Croft of HDD said: “The completion of the first phase of our project in Lawley is a major milestone for HDD. The mix of retail, leisure, care and residential is our signature and we are delighted to have delivered this exciting scheme well before the planned completion date.”

Open Forum in Matlock to discuss future plans

As part of its commitment to encouraging community involvement in the redevelopment of Matlock’s town centre, HDD, which last year beat four other developers to be selected as preferred developer of this historic site, hosted an Open Forum.

The Forum, designed to get local people involved in the early stages of the redevelopment, was the first event in an on-going consultation program.

Harvey Lay of HDD said “Community involvement is the cornerstone of the redevelopment of Matlock town centre. The Open Forum was a great success and gave us some great feedback and we look forward to continuing our dialogue with the local community as the project moves forward.”
